Is age a big factor in dating?

Dear Taylor,

Age is a factor in dating! A couple years on either side will not affect you. When you start getting to 10 or more years older or younger that will have some affect on your relationship. Sometimes it will only affect the people around you. I dated a man that was 17 years older then I was and at first it was no biggy. We had a great time hanging out. Our relationship lasted for 2 years and in the process I was treated like a temporary phase by his family, friends, and ex wife. Soon our age difference no matter what I thought did catch up. I was 21 and he was 38 years old. I wanted to go out and party and experience the world. He wanted to sit at home and read a book sipping overly priced red wine. Now that i’m older I could date him with no problem. At my current age I could enjoy the slow paced lifestyle he enjoys. Ten years ago I could not.

As of recent I was dating a guy that was younger then myself by 4 or so years. He and I had plenty in common. We had gone to the same high school, had some of the same friends, and grew up in walking distance to each other. This time around I was the person looking for a slower pace lifestyle and he was looking for the next party.

Sometimes age is just in the head and other times depending on the experience of some people that may determine their mental age. You may be in your twenties but have the experience of a thirty year old. Don’t let the judgment of others determine if or if not you date someone. But do keep it legal and make sure they are 18 and over.

Kisses,
